James 3:2 (NLT) Indeed, we all make many mistakes. For if we could control our tongues, we would be perfect and could also control ourselves in every other way.  “God is at work in you, softening you, teaching you to receive love, and to love as He does.”  For years after I gave my life to Christ, I was all about performance.  I had to get it all right.  Not only that, I was good at judging others who were not living up to my standards.  I guess I still had a little of that religiousness in me (maybe a lot).  Then I found myself in this recurring sin.  I couldn’t get over it on my own.  I tried but my fleshly desire kept grabbing me and pulling me back.  I knew God’s grace when I gave my life to Him,  but now I was beginning to understand His mercy.  Psalm 23 tells us that goodness and mercy will follow us all the days of our lives.  Think about this: God’s grace is His goodness.  He is so good to give us grace, the free gift of eternal life.  That’s what He did first.  Then He knew we would occasionally stumble so mercy shows up.  Good news-no matter how fast you live this life, goodness and mercy is always right there with you.  You can’t outrun dem dogs!!
