“Set your minds and keep them set on what is above (the higher things), not on the things that are on the earth.” Colossians 3:2

Yikes. This is a challenge, as I’m sure you would agree. Set. Keep it set. Set it where? Our mind can be a worse enemy than the devil, quite frankly. You know why? Because it never leaves us. You always take your mind with you, no matter where you go. The enemy can be defeated and leave, but if you want true victory in your life, you’ve got to win this battle with your mind.

The enemy thinks it’s fun to plant things in your mind that are not “higher” things. In fact, many of these thoughts are quite low. They’re not of God; they’re not from God; God does not think that way. If we let him, the enemy will plant not just ungodly, but evil, in our minds. This is not to be! God has so much more for us! But in this process of transforming our minds to be like that of Christ (Romans 12:2,) we learn that His ways and thoughts are higher (Isaiah 55:9.) He’s smarter and sees everything, frankly.

So let’s make the choice! Make the choice to think on things above (yes… heaven, God’s goodness, seeing Jesus, His beauty, His nearness… those things that we cannot see with our eyes.) Don’t let church be the only time you think about God! He’s with you anyway, wherever you go. You might as well praise Him. You might as well whisper those words of love to Him all day long: “Jesus, thank you. Thank You for Your love. Thank You for my family. I love You, Lord. Hallelujah. I bless Your name.” He loves the sound of your voice!

It’s easy to think about heaven and God’s nearness and the kingdom of God when you realize He’s right there with you.

If you don’t, temptation to think negatively will come, and it will possibly overwhelm you if you’re not armed. You’ll find yourself swamped with thinking that has nothing to do with truth, nothing to do with His purpose in your life, nothing to do with following after Him.

Make up your mind ahead of time about the choices you’ll make — that you will glorify God in everything you do. Don’t quit or give up! Set your mind. Keep it set.
