“He who does not love has not become acquainted with God (does not and never did know Him,) for God is love. 1 John 4:8

There are levels to love. But the passage above makes it clear that if we don’t have love, we show we’ve never really known God. Ouch. I don’t want that in my life! I want love.

Many live their lives blaming others for their own personal unhappiness. We even sometimes attempt to blame God for messes we get ourselves into by our own poor choices. We play games and manipulate others and circumstances so we can get our way — not even realizing that God truly wants the best for us and trying everything He can to get our eyes turned to Him. When we finally turn to Him, we find revelation of His beauty — His plan, and His redemptive power to save us… truly save us… from the enemy and even ourselves.

We need to see ourselves the way God sees us: He sees us as loving and giving; as His child carrying His DNA and hunger for the miraculous. He sees us in all we’re becoming. He doesn’t see our past because it’s all been made new in Him (2 Corinthians 5:17.) All of me is new in Him! It just takes a little while to start believing it. When I start to believe it though, I start behaving differently. I start loving the way I was created to. I start living what I really am: His child. His child who loves.
