“But God shows and clearly proves His (own) love for us by the fact that while we were still sinners, Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One) died for us.” Romans 5:8
Most of us can’t believe this when we read it. Read the passage above again, out loud, slowly,to yourself. (Pause.) Wait. “While we were still sinners He died for us?” Yep. Even at your ugliest, your most sinful, your most wicked and rebellious, He died for you. Even before He was on your radar, He was loving you. Looking out for you. Watching you walk away from every door that would lead you to Him. Watching you make your life a mess. Watching you reject His love that was near you. Watching you… just waiting! For you to turn to Him.
This verse is probably one of the most powerful in all of scripture. It’s mind blowing to think He knew us before we knew Him. It’s mind blowing to think He loved us before we ever loved Him. Most of us when we really get saved act like He just showed up on the planet for the first time — and that we discovered Him! We love to share and tell everyone about this “Great Discovery!” But the truth is all along He’s been waiting.
He’s been waiting for us. Look back. Ask HIm to show you where He was in your life.
You see? He’s got plans for you. He’s had them all along. Yes, it’s about you. But it’s also about those you are going to reach with HIs love.
Look what the Apostle Paul wrote to the Ephesian church:
“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10
He’s prepared great things for you to do long ago. He didn’t create any of us for failure. He didn’t create any of us to live as an island. He didn’t create any of us to live in boredom. He wants us to succeed! But He wants us to succeed for His purposes, not to consume fame or wealth on our own lusts. He wants to bless us so that we can bless others! So that we can win a city and do missions work, and so that we can go on missions trips and start ministries and reach this world for Him. So that we bless our families and have plenty.
Prayer: Thank You, Lord, that You were loving me before I even knew You. Let me grasp that somehow today.
