“Be strong and courageous, and firm; fear not nor be in terror before them, for it is the Lord your God Who goes with you; He will not fail you or forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6
The passage above is the message God gave Joshua after the death of Moses, when the reigns of leadership were being passed on to him. It was now the task of Joshua to complete the journey with Israelites… seeing them into the Promised Land. In this passage, He promises Joshua that as He was with Moses, so He’d be with him.
You see Joshua had witnessed the mighty miracles God had performed at Moses’ hands. He’d witnessed the faith of the man God chose. And he’d walked alongside him (many call Joshua Moses’ youth pastor. I don’t know about this. Maybe I’d call Moses’ Joshua’s mentor.) But Joshua had seen the faithfulness of God to Moses, and He now had this promise, too, that He wouldn’t leave.
God is with us! He won’t leave! Whatever we face today, He’s with us. Be strong and courageous. Courage isn’t the lack of fear; it’s doing in spite of the fear. Sometimes we quake at what God tells us to do. But when we choose to obey, we find such peace and joy. Why? Because we know we’ve done what he said in spite of our own fear!
Don’t cringe in the presence of your enemy. “Fear not nor be in terror before them.” He’s with you. He will not fail. He’s always got your back (even when you mess up, you’re still His.) Trust Him. He’ll make it work out.
