“For it is by (free) grace you have been saved, and this not of yourselves; it is the gift of God; not because of works, lest any man should boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9

We’ve been saved and it’s a gift! We can never earn or deserve this most precious gift of Jesus, yet God the Father gave Him anyway.

In our devotional Trusting God Day by Day, in the January 26 entry, Joyce shares her own definition of faith: “living with a positive attitude that comes from a deep trust in God.” It’s trusting Him to truly take care of us. It’s the putting Him first in all areas. It’s having the confidence to say: “I may not understand, but I know He’s working things out for me.”

Our faith is not in some philosophical idea. Our faith is in the person of the Lord Jesus Christ! We don’t boast in our accomplishments or merit, we boast in Him! We turn back and give Him all the praise for saving us, washing us, and making us new.

Lord, I make up my mind today that I will stop striving to earn what you’ve given as a free gift. I will boast only in You. I choose to follow You, and I know I will mess up at times. But when I stumble, I will not fall, for you uphold me with Your hand. (Psalm 37:24)
